A NURSE PRACTITIONER (NP) is an advanced practice nurse – a registered nurse (RN) with advanced education and training, prepared at the master’s and doctoral levels. NPs combine medical and nursing expertise in order to provide high quality health care, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention. NPs are licensed and authorized in all states to diagnose, treat, and prescribe, and deliver primary and specialty health care to all populations across the lifespan. They work in collaboration with other health care professionals including your primary care physician and are a unique and integral part of your health care team. Every quality study done to date supports nurse practitioners as high-quality, cost-effective health care providers.
